Hitachi High-Tech America Inspire STEM Program Transforming Labs into Innovation Hubs

Hitachi High-Tech America’s mission as a corporate citizen is to contribute to the continuous enrichment of life and to inspire the next generation of scientists. Through the Inspire STEM Educational Outreach Program, Hitachi High-Tech gives students the opportunity to explore the unknown and magnify their world, by providing access to tabletop scanning electron microscopes physically and remotely.

By blending both physical and remote capabilities, program participants can access a Hitachi Scanning Electron Microscope anytime. The remote access has opened up opportunities to expand the program’s global footprint by offering lab access anywhere in the world.

Hitachi High-Tech Inspire STEM Program reimagined program access through the development of Learning Labs for virtual use, where future STEM leaders learn new skills from navigating in-person and remote labs interchangeably. With these new lab setups giving students 24/7 remote access to industry-grade equipment, outreach sites have the capacity to usher in a new era of STEM education. This new way of learning is pushing boundaries and driving a culture of future STEM workforce and citizens that are empowered to innovate new ideas faster and more collaboratively.

Our Program

Technology

Fine Structure Observatio

  • High Sensitivity to observe different brightness levels representing composition.
  • Compositional contrast including surface details using lower accelerating Voltage.
  • Innovative secondary-electron detector to obtain surface detail with non-conductive samples at lower vacuum conditions.

Program Access

Labs are critical to exposing students to the tools needed to enable future innovations.

According to Hum, the “core idea in developing this remote laboratory was to provide students with anytime, anywhere testing capabilities similar to what their peers in software can enjoy. The instruments are remotely accessible, meaning students can set up experiments on the bench and remotely test them anytime they wish.

Establishing remote-access lab capabilities ensures that students receive hands-on industry experience regardless of their physical locations. With remote labs, the program can expand its reach and influence in STEM fields of study.
